Maintaining Your New Carpet
January 15, 2014
There is nothing like a soft wool floor covering in your home. Wool not only looks great, but also acts as a natural insulator and can be a great statement piece in a room. However, it can be hard to look after, so it is important you clean them regularly to maintain that great look and feel people love about wool.
The most important part of your carpet maintenance routine is regular vacuuming. Vacuuming will suck up any loose particles and reduce the dirt and grime on your floor covering. You should vacuum your wool carpet at least once a week. This should be done more often in high traffic areas.
Another important aspect to cleaning your wool floor covering is the prevention of dirt and stains. Place mats outside entrances to minimize dust and dirt and ask people to take off their shoes where possible. Clean the mats regularly. Also limit food and drinks in carpeted areas.
If your carpet gets a mark or stain, try to remove it immediately. Start by scooping up any of the spill or solids that are sitting on top of the carpet. How the wool is cleaned will depend on the spill, but the most important thing is to not rub the stain, but rather blot as much of the stain as possible with a clean cloth or paper towel. Then clean the stain. If the stain is more difficult, get a professional carpet cleaner in as quickly as possible to spot-clean the affected area.
It is also wise to have your carpets professional cleaned annually. While vacuuming does rid the carpet floor covering of most dirt, it can’t get to it all and this can cause irreparable damage and staining. To maintain a beautiful carpet, a professional clean once a year is vital.
