While the natural beauty of timber can certainly transform any space, the extensive selection of species and colours can be a little daunting. But don’t despair at Choices we will help you find the one that best suits your space, taste and budget.
For instance, you may like the look of an Australian timber species such as Blackbutt or Sydney Blue Gum. Or perhaps a more classic species like Oak or Beech, either way, at Choices we’ll help you find the right timber species to suit your home décor.
Of course the other beauty of timber flooring is that it’s easy to install and maintain, and the experienced team at Choices can help you there too.
You can view our entire collection of timber species at your nearest Choices store.
Styles
Timber styles vary from 1-Strip to 3-Strip, depending on the look you want to create and the room space you have. To help with your flooring decision, here are examples of 1-Strip, 2-Strip and 3-Strip timber styles.
So how do you know if an engineered/floating timber floor is good quality? Firstly, engineered/floating flooring uses real timber so the better the quality of the timber, the better quality of the finish. Look for engineered/floating floors that are made from Australian hardwoods. They are extremely durable and last longer. By comparison, other engineered/floating floors made from Asian timbers do not have the same hardness so they will scratch and wear out faster. The quality of the core board the timber is attached to is also important. The best quality core board will ensure your floor remains stable, lasts longer and won’t shrink or contract with changes of weather. The finish of the board will determine how long the floor will stay looking good and the amount of maintenance required. In the end, purchasing the best quality timber floor you can afford will provide you with a beautiful and easy to maintain floor for many years to come. It's important to select the correct underlay for a timber or laminate floor as it plays a vital role in keeping the floor cushioned and quiet. Always select an underlay with a plastic moisture barrier attached, as this will prevent moisture entering your floor from the sub-floor beneath. You'll find that a peel and stick tape is fitted to most quality underlays to help seal the joins. Acoustic underlays like Quiet Step Combi-Lay are recommended for installation in multi-storey applications because they reduce footfall noise by up to 30%. At Choices, rest assured that we would use the right underlay for the job, one that is recommended by the best product manufacturers and distributors in Australia. Ask your Choices Flooring consultant for more information on the underlays available.
