Create a well being nook with floor lamps and floor cushions

Go from the floor up

When creating a relaxation space, try building it from the floor up. Begin with flooring - a rustic laminate can look beautiful, but so can a plush carpet. If your space is part of a larger room, consider your flooring needs for the rest of the room as well. For these kinds of spaces, adding a rug can help to section off that part of the room. And if your relaxation space is a full room - or maybe part of your bedroom - then you’ll be able to cater more towards your design preferences for the nook.

Make use of floor lamps

Floor lamps are a great way to create soft light in your home. They’re perfect for a reading corner or cozy area because they’re not nearly as harsh as a standard ceiling light. Some floor lamps even have dimming options so that you can decide how bright you want the space to be. It’s easy to change the lightbulbs in floor lamps to create a specific ambiance - for example, you could use a softer, yellow-toned light, or even a blue or pink light to make it even more interesting. If you’d like a little more light, add some string lights along the walls for a soft glow.

Try floor cushions

Instead of the usual chair or couch, try floor cushions. These are great to use in nooks and smaller spaces as they’re more portable and take up less room. They’re great for meditation, yoga, or a nap, and come in many different sizes, textures, and colours. For example, if you plan on lying down in this area, get a folding cushion that is long enough for you to lay on. If you’ll be sitting, try two round cushions - one to sit on and one to lean back on. Floor cushions can be quite comfortable and add to the laid-back atmosphere of your space. Add a cozy blanket for the ultimate relaxing experience.

Think about colours and decor

Soft colours will add to the mellow mood of your space. Think pastel blues, soft grays, or muted pinks. If you don’t want to paint the walls, you could hang tapestries with these colours to make the space feel more welcoming. If your space is in a corner of a bigger room, consider getting a freestanding room divider to help section off your area.

Keep furniture simple - maybe a small bookcase or side table. You could even drape a tapestry or fabric over a table to tie everything together. Add some plants for decor - many succulents are low-maintenance and easy to take care of. Candles or wax melts are good options, too. Ultimately, surround yourself with things that bring you peace and help you decompress.
